AREAS OF COUNSELING AND THERAPY

If you are going through a difficult transition, experiencing troubling thoughts or feelings, having difficulties in your relationships, or having general feelings of anxiety or depression, psychotherapy may be the perfect place for learning to address these intrusive and negative thoughts or behaviors. Psychotherapy offers you a helpful partner and unbiased listener in examining and sorting out what's going on. It can also help you create richer, more satisfying relationships. I provide therapy and additional support with issues such as:

Counseling Approaches

I work from a strengths-based, solution focused model as well as a psychodynamic perspective. This means we work to identify the immediate issues and the logical solutions as well as any roadblocks you may have. I recognize that not all solutions are simple to implement so I work with you to find your best leverage for goals. We also spend time unwrapping and acknowledging conscious and unconscious roadblocks that are not supporting your success.  I have extensive and practical understanding of the deep and intimate connections of our past experiences and relationships and the way they affect us now. Together we will work to identify and address these affects both positive and negative. Additionally I have training and experience working with CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and teach these skills to clients in order to manage uncomfortable thoughts and feelings.

Together we will work to have a more clear understanding of your emotions and patterns of behavior and facilitate the insight needed to make change.  We will use the therapeutic process to create lasting change in your thinking, feeling and actions.  You will develop tools to more effectively address challenges and gain a deeper understanding about who you are and why you do the things you do. It is my hope to help you live more consciously, be happier, and discover the best possible you.

I look forward to speaking with you and learning how I may be helpful. If after speaking together, it seems like I am not a good fit, I am happy to help connect you with an appropriate referral.

Trauma Informed Therapist

My work also focuses on working with adults and youth who have witnessed or experienced significant trauma.  Together we work to help you make sense of the experiences and heal old wounds. I work with past trauma and PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) including:

  • traumatic accidents or illnesses

  • abusive relationships

  • domestic violence

  • physical abuse

  • sexual abuse

  • emotional abuse

Individual Therapy

Although I have additional training and experience in working with couples, families, and youth I especially enjoy working with adult Individuals as I believe this dynamic allows for powerful and lasting growth and change. During individual therapy, we will create a safe, non judgmental space where you can share your worries and concerns. I will listen and together we will identify areas where you want to see growth.  We will develop insight into what is causing you difficulty and work to heal old wounds. For some, this will mean understanding and making sense of early development and family, or trauma. In addition to providing encouragement and support, I will provide feedback and make specific recommendations. You will develop tools to better manage tough situations and have a renewed sense of strength and optimism. Our work together will foster deepened insight, improved self esteem, and an increased ability for close, intimate relationships.
